The effects remain, though they will pause once the book is removed. The 'disease' portion of it will fade (aka, there'll be fungus/rot but the flies and such will probably disappear). A request may need to be made to the Admiral about undoing the damage or nuking from space, depending on how far you want to go. Or, alternately, cloroxed to high hell.
